Split Payment & Deposit is a 4-in-1 app that allows you to increase retail sales by offering more payment flexibility to customers. The app has four key functionalities: <ul> <li>Deposit payments. How do Deposit payments work?

By using Split Payment & Deposit, you can offer deposit payments to your customers. Deposit payment, also referred to as a deferred purchase, is a type of payment that is delayed in parts to allow customers to pay for the purchased goods at a later date. For example, they can pay a 40% deposit today, and the balance (remaining amount) later, say in a month.

Deposit payment statuses

The following statuses are available for deposit payments in the app:

${color}[#f36c12](Partially paid) – Only the deposit is paid, while the due date for paying the balance hasn’t arrived yet.
${color}#f36c12 – The order wasn’t paid on the due date since the credit card payment failed.
${color}#f36c12 – The order was canceled in the app or the Shopify admin

Limitations

To use a deferred payment option, merchants need to use Shopify Payments or PayPal Express as a payment gateway. If your store doesn’t meet the Shopify requirements, you’ll see the corresponding notification on the app’s Home page and Deferred payments page

How do Installment payments work?

In the app, when your customers buy products in installments, they do the initial payment in the amount set by you (from 0 to 99%). As for the remaining amount, the app will create draft orders and send your customers invoices according to the payment schedule.

In order to ensure that customers will get invoices, go from your Shopify admin to Settings > Checkout. In the Customer contact section, select Customers can only check out using email and click Save.

In the app, installment orders are processed in several steps:

As soon as customers create an initial installment order, it becomes visible in the app. Draft orders are created in the Shopify admin for each part of an installment order.
As the draft installment order is getting paid, a new order for each paid part is generated in the Shopify admin. These orders mustn’t be fulfilled.
After all parts of the whole order are ${color}#227916, a new final order is created in Shopify admin. It includes all the installment parts. The final order is the one that can be fulfilled.

As soon as customers create a split order, it becomes visible in the app. Draft orders are created in the Shopify admin for each part of a split order.

As the draft split order is getting paid, a new order for each paid part is generated in the Shopify admin. These orders mustn’t be fulfilled.

Does the app work with cash on delivery (COD) deposits?

If you want to charge a deposit without the second auto-charging payment (for example, using the COD payment method) you can use the app’s Installment payment functionality. This will allow you to receive a deposit at checkout and the second payment by cash on delivery.

Settings

In the app, go to Deferred payments.

Under the Type, select Installment payments.

Under Applies to, select which products or collections you want to allow purchasing in installments.

Moving to Installment payments, specify the percentage of Initial payment and type “1” under the Quantity of remaining payments. Under Payment every, select the required number of days or weeks; this is the interval at which customers will receive invoices. For COD, it is recommended to specify the period following the date of delivery - in this case, invoices will not be sent since the order is already paid. Specify the Installment order payment tag or leave the proposed one.
